Write a letter (between 120-150 words) to your pen friend living abroad stating your experience/ impression about the recent floods in some of the districts of West Bengal.

My dear Monoranjan,

Your letter is just to hand. As desired by you, I am to tell you about my impression of the recent flood in some districts of West Bengal.

In September of this year, the districts Birbhum, Burdwan, Murshidabad, Nadia, Hooghly, Malda and some parts of Midnapur and North 24-Parganas were under dreadful flood. There were excessive rainfalls in these districts. As a result of this many dams were broken and a large quantity of water was released from reservoirs. Crops worth crore rupees were destroyed. Men took shelter on the road, in school buildings or under the open sky. People were waiting for food and shelter; cattle and other animals were washed away. Intestinal disease and cholera broke out in the epidemic form. Some political parties and social organisations collected contributions from the public in cash or kind to send them to the flood-affected people. But some of them were selfish, mean and heartless and so instead of taking pity on the marooned people, they put the collected money in their own pockets. Contributions both from the government and public were too less to meet the need of the affected people. No more today.

Yours sincerely,

Nabanita
