Paragraph

We are ready to bid good-bye to the 20th century as we are on the threshold of a new century. In this century we have experienced so many incidents and events of weal and woe. We have been able to have our Independence after many blood-shedding struggles; A great number of great men appeared in our country in this century. Many great men of our country have become world-famous in different fields of Literature, Science, Politics, Socio-Economics etc. We, the Indians, are very much proud of our Nobel winners in this century. But some of the political and communal incidents are much painful to us and we are ashamed of the facts that happened in the world in this century.

We can't forget the barbarian tyranny of the British Govt. on our freedom fighters; we can't forget the communal riots in 1946-47. History reminds us forever of the Death of Gandhiji, Father of the Nation of Free India. The deaths of Indira Gandhi and Rajib Gandhi, Prime Ministers of Free India, have left black spots in our history. Fighting with Pakistan at Kargil is definitely undesirable. The natural calamity of Super Cyclone in Orissa is an unforgettable disaster in this century. The heart-piercing pathetic exhibition of dead bodies, caused by the Train Mishap at Gaisal Station of North Dinajpur, on the platform and in its surrounding areas still flashes in our mind.

We have learnt through our experience a lot. So we are now mentally prepared for welcoming the 21st Century which we are dreaming of and much hopeful too. Though we know the old days are gold. Present days are silver, and future days are lead' we still 'hope against hopes by favour of merciful God. We fervently hope that the 21st Century will be the century of peace and love through the principle 'Live and let live. Besides being self-sufficient in agriculture, industry, science and technology we are hopeful to the fulfilment of brotherly globalization in the coming century by removing illiteracy, poverty, ignorance of health and hygiene and the difference between the rich and the poor. We expect all-round development in the coming millennium.
