Ram Nath Kovind (born 1 October 1945) is the 14th President Elect of the Republic of India. He was a former leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, and fought for Dalit rights and issues. He served as the Governor of Bihar from 2015 to 2017 and was a Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha from 1994 to 2006. Kovind was nominated as the presidential nominee by the ruling party, and won the 2017 Indian presidential election against Meira Kumar, the presidential candidate of the opposition. Kovind won the election with 65.65% of the total votes, while his opponent, Meira Kumar, got 34.35% of all the votes . Kovind will assume office on 25 July 2017. source- Wikipedia
